Angelica Vieyra

Writer

“Anyone can write this.” “You get your ‘writing’ off the internet; YOU can’t write!” Those words I hear far too often. I’m told I can’t be a writer; that I am not a writer and my work isn’t my own. I will admit, at first, I would be upset and try to defend myself and my work. However that never worked, people still talk and criticized. I realized that there isn’t much that I can do about it so when ever someone tells me I can’t, I say I can. When someone says that it isn’t my writing, I say believe what you want. And when someone tells me, “Who do you think you are?” I say hi, I’m Angelica Vieyra.
I’m often told I should have a back up plan because a writer isn’t a career. What people fail to understand is if I was in it for the money I’d never write but I’m not in it for the money, for the fame, for the fortune. No. I’m in it to leave my mark on this world. I won’t live a life without leaving the only thing that I have to offer, my writing. A writer’s work can live on forever and that’s my goal, to leave behind something that can leave on forever. With a Fuji Fine Pix 5900 camera and it’s timer, I captured what I think a writer would look like.
Ashley Sanchez
Sanger High School
Artist

Hello, my name is Ashley Sanchez and I’m 17 years old. I live in Sanger, California with my family.
Throughout the years I’ve been inspired by many things, making it hard to choose what I really want to become in life but I know what I really love.
The time and energy it takes to become an artist is extraordinary. It’s not an easy job to be successful in and definitely difficult to become an amazing drawer. I want to become an artist because it’s something that makes me feel accomplished in myself and makes me truly happy. I try to extend my drawings skills to everything; to cartoons, still life, from my imagination but my favorite is drawing people. I love drawing portraits from any kind of angle and focusing on their faces and features. I feel great whenever I finish an art piece of someone .It’s a difficult job to lead but I have confidence that with the right education, practice, and confidence, I can find a place that can use my skills.
I’ve been drawing since I was 13 years old and I’ve progressed through out the years. I learned by myself spending nights trying to get better, practicing every single feature over and over until I got as close to perfection as I could. The more I pursue art, the more I’ll be closer to finding my dream.
I used a Fuji Film FinePix s9100 camera from my digital photography class. I shot at the speed of 1/125 of a second with f-stop of 3.6. My ISO speed was 100.

“OR” surgeon

My dream career is in the medical field. I want to go into the medical field because all throughout my life, people have always given for me, and I feel that in this way, I can give back by helping others. My mom is a Radiologist Technician. And ever since I was younger, I’ve had to go and wait for hours on in for my mom to finish work, but it always interested me to see the work she does. I want to be an “OR” surgeon so that I can save lives, but since medical school is expensive, I doubt I will be able to go right after college, so my goal is to learn CPR and be involved in anything where I can actively use my skills to help others.

Profession Football player

My dream career is to be a professional football player. I have been playing for 7 years. I dreamed of being a football player since I was a little kid. It’s my goal to make the NFL even though it’s hard to make it. But, if you put dedication and time into it, you can make it. Anything is possible if you work hard. Being a football player is what I want to do in my life. It is fun, active, intense, hard hitting, and exciting. Football has made me into an athlete. Since I’ve played, I been very competitive and my mind set is always first place. Being a football player for my career takes a lot of weight lifting, a lot of running and, a lot of watching film over and over. I have dedicated my high school years working hard leading up to my career but, to be successful I worked over time to lead my team to victory.

Biotechnology

Hello my name is Macklin Riffel I live with my parents and my 13 year old brother. I have been taking tech classes in high school for the last 2 years and I have learned to really enjoy it. My favorite subject in school used to be biology so I learned there was a major combining these two subjects, Biotechnology! My older brother who now works for infuse medical. This happens to be a Biotech Field. This is a work field that is on the rise and growing in high demand. Soon I will be able to join my brother in the same style of work place. I used a FUJIFILM FinePix S100FS camera at a shutter speed of 1/30 sec an F-Stop of 3.0 and an ISO of 100.
Ismael Juarez
Sanger High School
Graphic designer
2nd place - North
finalist

Hello, my name is Ismael Juarez. I live with my mother; Veronica Ruiz, and my two younger brothers; Michael and Brandon, in Sanger, California. Throughout my high school years, I have grown a taste for computers. I could easily get comfortable with anything dealing with technology and/or computers. Anything dealing with computers interests me. Graphic design interests me the most, I love creating new work. I have an imagination that works perfect with graphic design.
Once I start my career with graphic design, I’ll love going to work everyday. Most people don’t have jobs they enjoy but for me, doing graphic design, I’ll love it. I’ll get even better once I get more training and education, I’ll be professional. I hope to be creating graphics for many top businesses out there, getting my skills known. I want people to contact me for graphics; I want to start my own graphic design business in the future. I’ll make my mother proud; I’ll give back to her for being a single mother raising three boys. I’ll take care of her.
Kayla Valenzuela

Special effects makeup Artist
3rd place - North
Finalist

One field I would really love to get into is the special effects makeup industry. I think it is a great way to express myself through art. I would have the opportunity to create characters using my imagination as well as emotions. I plan on going to the Make-Up Designory (MUD) in L.A. for school in a year or two. I have always loved being a creative person, whether it is through art, photography, music, or makeup.

The reason I would like to explore this field is because it would open a variety of paths for me do go down job wise. I could have my work in films, museums, theatre, and television shows. I believe this is a great opportunity for anyone to get their name heard in a business sense. This career expands your imagination and creativity to construct any character they may be needed for the job.

I want to be the one who creates the fantasy creatures that kids and teenagers can talk about to their friends. I want to be able to create the creepy horror film monsters that scare people or a gorgeous fairy for a syfy film. I have a imagination that can lead to whatever the job may need. This career lets me explore the creativity of my dream job.

For this contest, I used a Fuji Film FinePix S100FS. The F-stop was f8 at an ISO of 1600. The focal length was 9.1 mm.
Robert Gray
Sanger High School
Photographer
1st place - North
Finalist

This new years I made a resolution to take, at the minimum, one picture a day for a whole year to help me document the places I’ve gone and the memories I’ve made. My name it Robert Gray I am 16 years old and am an aspiring photographer. I just recently discovered my passion for photography and since then have devoted all my spare time to improving my skills and learning as much as possible. I live on the Kings River which has given me a wonderful canvas for my work and has kept me motivated to shoot every day. I have a very active family and they have helped me go places I never would have and supported me in my work.

I hope one day to be able to support myself through photography because it is what I truly love to do and can’t “picture” my life with out it.

While shooting I used a Canon EOS DIGITAL REBEL XS. I did change the shutter and aperture value slightly but my main focus was on the adjustment of the white balance.
